Everett Lumberjack
Another “found art.” Out to lunch with a customer, check out the clothes, I was working (ha, ha) and on the way to lunch when we found this lumberjack in Everett, WA. Next to the lumberjack was the sea hawk found on the animals page.
Seattle Seahawk
Working (ha, ha!) in Everett, WA. This Seahawk was another double-up along with the Big Lumberjack. The people working inside this building were nearly as interested in me getting this picture taken as I was. Thanks Brian.
Wiinter Buick Inflatable
A particularly uninspiring image and a chincy inflatable. On top of that I had to plod through the snow to get there. Well, one of these images has to be my least favorite and if you haven’t guessed by now, here it is.
Black Horse Pike Hubcaps
I don’t think that this image fits all of my criteria, but I like it so much that I just have to include it. As a matter of fact I purchased a hubcap a few years ago for our 1985 Voyager. If you had a Voyager you know how bad the hubcap design was that year.
Gaffney Peach
If you’ve ever driven down I-85 through Gaffney, South Carolina you must have seen this “peach” of a Peach. I love stuff like this, it’s what maakes America such an interesting place. I can’t imagine the French doing something like this. (No E-mail please, I could as easily have said Belgians or Hungarians.)
Wendy
I suppose if there were other people that did what I do they would object to including inflatables as not being “substantial.” I take the opposite view. I like finding Big Things and since inflatables are so transitory they are more than found art, they are lucky timing art. Wendy is a case in point. Thanks to Nancy.
Collinsville Catsup
How ’bout some catsup to go with those fries. The famous Collinsville catsup bottle water tower. These folks are serious about this landmark. It even has it’s own web site.. Check it out and tell ’em Jim sent you.
Zinn’s Diner
I think that when I found Mr. Zinn I realized what “found art” meant. We had stopped for breakfast here and were walking up to the diner when lo and behold a big picture opportunity! And this wasn’t this first time we stopped as Zinn’s either. Let that be a lesson to you.
505 Pound Man Eating Clam
Along I-75 we saw a sign for “Sea Shell City.” Who would have thought of sea shells in Cheyboygen County, MI. In addition, the sign boasted a 505 pound man eating clam. Who could resist? I know I couldn’t. Here’s the result, pretty impressive huh?
IGA Pepsi
Well while not inflatable, not exactly substantial either. I wonder how the purists (if there were any) would view this six pack. I like Pepsi better than Coke but I’m not a Republican, go figure. This was shot about 1/2 mile from home one lucky Saturday during the IGA parking lot sale.
Greenwood Park Jeep
Here is another inflatable called in by a bunch of new Bird Dogs at Greenwood Park Swim Club (Go Frogs! Beat Greenfields!!!)
Houghton Lake Flamingo
Virtually across the street from Zubler’s Indian Village on M-55 in Houghton Lake, MI. (See the Big People page.) I didn’t realize at the time how cool these double hits were. At any rate this flamingo is one of my all time favorites, it illustrates the absurd part of this hobby. If you still don’t get it, study this image until you do.
St. Louis Cone
Another bird dog shot thanks to my sister. This ice cream cone is right in front of an elementary school outside St. Louis. (Catherine, I need more directions.)
Sorry Looking 9 Ball
This may one of the sorriest of inflatables that I have ever seen. Dirty, underinflated, what a mess. I don’t understand how a business owner would think that this would attract customers into the showroom. Beats me!
