NJ Chicken with Attitude
This Big Bird may not be yellow but he is big and watches over the activity on the Casino Pier amusement park in Seaside Heights, NJ. Update: This has become my favorite image. The chicken has some attitude, maybe since he’s from New Jersey, I can’t explain it, but I do love it.
Wal-Mart Fritos
Meredith and I were in Bentonville to see our buyer Sarah at Wal-Mart. The visit went well and we went across the street to store #100 to check out the plan-o-gram. This is one of the best stores since it is right across from the Home Office (Wal-Mart speak for headquarters.) On our way in to the store we spotted this Big Snack blow-up. It was a good day – good customer call – good photo op.
Shortcut Croc
If you are going cross-country in Virginia, possibly taking a “shortcut” on US211 to “save time” and you are near Luray, VA, check out the Luray Reptile Center. It’s not Disney but pretty cool none the less.
Luray Yogi Bear
On top of finding the Luray Reptile Center on US211, I was lucky enough to find Yogi standing a little further down the road. I wasn’t sure if he properly belongs in the “Animals” section or the “People” section. After all he did have his own TV show, eh Boo Boo?
Virginia Dino
OK, if you weren’t impressed with the Giant Croc, how about this Dinosaur. Imagine this “Big Guy” roaming the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia (pretty scary, eh?)
Las Vegas Swatch Shop
The Swatch Shop in The Fashion Show Mall, an upscale shopping center, on “The Strip” in Las Vegas. We were on our way to eat lunch at the Dive Shop located right outside the mall. I liked eating there and will probably go back next time I’m sent to Las Vegas. I don’t understand the people that go there willingly.
Virginia Johnny Appleseed
A lot of luck is involved in getting the opportunity to get a good photograph. Parents Weekend 1998 at JMU and we were staying 25 miles from school. Our motel restaurant was packed so we figured to go to the next exit and eat there. Wham! A Big Picture opportunity. Deb even had an apple in her handbag.
San Jose Muffler Man
Unlike the Johnny Appleseed above, I knew this guy was in San Jose. So, when I had some business (ha, ha) there I went hunting for this muffler shop. This is a true Muffler Man. Check out the muffler.
Desert Storm Muffler Man
Found this “Desert Storm” Big Man courtesy of Roadside America. Pass by Havre de Grace in Maryland quite often but never got off I-95 long enough to get this picture.
St. Michaels Masthead
I’ll have to say that this is one of the more “interesting (at least to me) Big People.” Certainly has big “attributes” that fit the category. Funny thing was that this was one of the harder photos to take because there were so many people attracted to this object.
Cowtown Rodeo
Outside the Cowtown Rodeo in South Jersey is this (Cow?/Bull?), I don’t know, call it a Cull or Bow. Horns and an udder, only in New Jersey, uddering confusing!
Pulling out of the Kmart lot and turning right both Ben and I let out a cheer of excitement when we saw this unexpected inflatable infront of the Mattress Warehouse store on Route 33 in Harrisonburg.
CES Surge
Here is a work related Big Thing. We had this built for the Consumer Electronics Show when we introduced our line of surge suppressors. This baby could probably take some big hits.
Concordville Pot
This is a Big Clay Pot (actually a Big Plastic Pot) that I got on US-322/US-1 near Concordville, PA. Since we took this image I have seen a lot of these big pots around laying on their sides with flowers or some such thing growing out of them. A cornucopia of plants.
Dresden Baskets
Here I am in Dresden, Ohio at the Longaberger Factory. Big baskets all around. You can take a factory tour, make your own basket, it’s quite the place. They even have bus tours here for the fanatical amongst us. I’m not the fan in my house but I appreciate the operation from a business standpoint. What a money-maker!
Surfside Casual Chairs
I noticed these chairs outside a branch of Surfside Casual in Somers Point, NJ last summer. Never made it back until this Spring. I got ’em and I’m glad. They bear an amazing similiarity to the two chairs we found earlier on the way to Long Beach Island.
South Jersey Guy
Here’s a cool guy. Definitely someone to be reckoned with. Found him (remember the found art stuff) on the way to the shore with 6 women in the car for Julia’s Birthday (Lucky me?) At any rate since he is “substantial” the purists can be happy. He can be found on Rte. 47 in S. Dennis in South Jersey.
Urbana Cow
You can’t understand the concept of “found art” until you face what I did with this cow. We were dropping Andy off for school and were walking out of a Best Buy store in Urbana, IL when lo and behold, across I-74 – a big cow. What an opportunity! I have a more entertaining image of this but the transfer service keep screwing it up.
